The first graphic below shows the average distance between moved when they moved to and from each state for the years 2015 through 2019.
The second graphic shows people moving to an adjacent county across a state line for the years 2015 through 2019. People move for many reasons and surveys say the vast majority of people move for either a job or family. However, there seems certain media outlets are suggesting that a lot of people are moving for political reasons. To try to eliminate moving between states for jobs or family, I looked at people making local but interstate moves. I.e., moves in which they likely didn’t change jobs or get closer to family.
