Mortality Rate
Information about the animationsYou will notice that during the early days of the virus spread the mortality rate jumps around a lot because the sample sizes are fairly small. As the number of infected grows the rates should stabilize.
The mortality rate (e.g. 5%) is indicated by the color shown in the legend. Even though the mortality rates vary greatly between states and over time, I used the same scale for easier comparison.
Note that I only have access to the reported cases and deaths. Thus, I would assume that these mortality rates are too high because the number of unreported infections likely far outweighs the number of unreported deaths. Below is a table for how you would adjust the percentages for different rates of unreported deaths and infections.
Unreported Death Rate | Unreported Infection Rate | Multiplier |
1% | 10% | 0.92 |
0.1% | 20% | 0.84 |
0% | 100% | 0.5 |
1% | 50% | 0.67 |
1% | 100% | 0.51 |
I will try to keep these updated daily for the foresee able future.
