These animations show the number of deaths for all cancers, all heart diseases, all respiratory diseases, and all circulatory diseases from 2018 as reported to the CDC compared to the number of deaths in 2020 attributed to COVID-19. The animations start from January 1, 2020, and assume the death rates for all causes besides COVID-19 are the same in 2020 as in 2018. These graphs should help people compare the magnitude of different causes of death. In some counties, COVID-19 is likely the leading cause of death this year but in other counties, it is a minor contributor.
